Applying fragrances is very exciting, in fact that was why we purchased them or wait a minute maybe not, maybe we went to get them so as to feel happier, sexier and more confident. So when we apply them, we expect they stay on us all day and ooze out that scent. But it is very frustrating when we have to carry a fragrance bottle everywhere and apply, every 1 hour because they don’t last long. I met someone who complained bitterly about spending a lot of money on original designer fragrances only to find out that they are out in few hours, so i thought it wise to put up a blog post on this subject matter.
I will like to state that even the best perfumes don’t last very long, several reasons contribute to why original perfumes don’t last long and i will touch on them here.
Type of Perfume
Perfumes are classified based on several criteria, such perfume oil concentration, type of ingridients, the time most apt to use it etc.
Its no longer news that there are four levels to fragrances
- A Cologne or sometimes called an Eau de Cologne or an Eau Fraiche is between 2-5% Perfume oil
- An Eau de Toilette is between 4-10% Perfume oil
- An Eau de Parfum is between 8-15% Perfume oil
- A Perfume or sometimes called an Extrait is between 15-25% Perfume oil
- A Parfum caotains 25 – 30% perfume oil.
So the more the concentration of perfume oil, the longer it lasts. So when purchasing a perfume, ensure it has more concentration of oil so it stays longer.
Day/Night Fragrances
Some perfumes are made for specific times of the day. some are day perfumes, some are for nights.
So its wise we know the time perfumes are designed to be applied so that we get the best out of it. You can see a perfume consultant to help you choose the one apt for a particular time.
Composition
So the ingredients used to design a perfume determines how long it lasts also. Citrus, fruity, based perfumes do not last as long as musky, Amber, and spicy perfumes so even when a fruity, sweet perfume is EDP, it may not last as long as a musky or Amber scent.
Application
Lastly, how we apply perfumes is very important as well. We are quick to apply perfumes on our clothes, while this works sometimes, we stand the risk of staining our clothes. This method is cool but there is a better way. Experts advise that we apply perfumes on our pulse points. These are behind your ear, behind your knee, inside wrist, inside elbow
After applying perfumes on these points you can apply a moisturizer on them so that these fragrance will hold for a longer time. It is okay to spray at the back of your neck so as to leave a trail of your fragrance behind you. If you have long hair, you can apply will you comb through your hair.
Lastly, this works best for ladies. you can mix your fragrance with your moisturizer of lotion (odorless) This leave the fragrance on your body all day. If your fragrance is scented, you can as well try a little of your fragrance on a little portion of your lotion to see if you like the scent the mix will create.
